Yoga mats come in all different widths and lengths and even shapes – yes you can get a circular mat if you wish!

Generally, a standard yoga mat (if there is such a thing) is 183cm long and 61cm wide. Asana Tree yoga mats range from 61cm – 68cm in width and are 185cm in length.

You probably won’t find many yoga mats wider than 68cm and even for the broadest of shoulders this should be sufficient.

Length is slightly different. For most people, a 183cm long mat will be sufficient but if you are over 6 feet tall, you may benefit from a longer mat (some long mats reach 220cm).

The type of yoga you practice can also make a difference to what length of mat you need. If you are practicing a gentler type of yoga like Hatha then a standard mat is likely to be fine. However, if you are practicing Ashtanga, with jump throughs and arm balances then a longer mat may be beneficial, so you don’t find yourself ‘falling’ off of the end.
